You are Not Alone
.
I know the exact the feeling of being too embarrassed to talk to someone about being in a Domestic Violence relationship.
Especially if you are a professionally working woman living with it secretly: It's like your isolated. Yep that was me! Not telling my family nor my closest friends what was happening in my marriage.
Until one day a childhood friend was unalived
by her boyfriend when she told him she was pregnant with their first child. You would think that my then husband would head my warning not to follow me to the funeral because it really hit home with my Bonus Brother Anthony (who was a cop) and My Gangsta Boogie Bonus sister Sheila (who was down with Baby Zulu) as we all grew up with the now deceased childhood friend.
Nope, the idiot showed up and sat in the back of the pew during the funeral staring me down with a "wait until you leave" look. Little did he know that after four years, I finally shared my DV situation with "Ant" and Sheila who politely escorted him out and threatened him to leave me along with a gun and mini hatchet.
Having friends who understood the mission and help me muster enough courage to take one step in the right direction, was an end to the beginning of my Journey free from Domestic Violence.
